Last Thursday I headed to the gym for a new class I’d noticed on the schedule. I immediately googled it when I read the description, which explained that it was a Bollywood-inspired dance workout. Bollywood? Dancing? …and a workout? Sold.
As I often mention, I’m a huge fan of Zumba. I went to my first class the summer after I graduated college three years ago, and I’ve never looked back. After Thursday, my beloved Zumba has a competitor.
Don’t get me wrong, I will always be a devotee, but now I’m going to have to split my time between Zumba and my new-found love, Doonya.
What is it? As I mentioned above, it’s a Bollywood-inspired, dance-based workout. You’ll work your abs, your legs, your butt…all while getting a sexy, sweaty workout.
What are the moves like? Somehow, in some magical way, our instructor (and co-creator of the program) Priya, made squats fun. There were tons of them, but because they were worked into moves that looked good and felt good, it was hard to stop. There were also lots of ab moves, which included twists, knee bends, and even some planks toward the end. It was a high-intensity workout, and I did feel the burn. 😀
Can anyone do it? I think so! The moves were easy to follow and fun, and the music selection was excellent. Priya started each move off slowly and sped up gradually. There really wasn’t anything that I thought wasn’t doable, regardless of what your level of fitness/dance experience is.
I unfortunately left my phone in my locker, so I didn’t get any photos this time, but I’m going to include a couple of videos from the Doonya YouTube channel so you can see for yourself what it’s all about, and decide if this is something you’d like to try! I can honestly say that I am addicted and have been thinking about my second class since I left the first one. It left me feeling rejuvenated and confident (and extremely sweaty).
